Denver

We also spent a night camping at a State Park in the southern park of Denver - Aurora to be exact. Cherry Creek State Park had the same foibles as the Cheyenne Mountain Park. We did, however, get to talk to a volunteer. He was very positive about the State Park system in his area. Perhaps he has not had the opportunity to camp out here. When we were not camping we were shopping. We didn’t always buy but it was sure fun looking.

Ken realized that foul weather was about to come our way. Camping was about to become a terrible idea. Up to this point we were blessed with spring weather in this high altitude city. Thank heavens for weather apps and future weather forecasting. Ken had booked us into a Best Western Hotel in Northeast Park Hill, part of Denver. We stayed in this little hotel area about a year and a half ago when driving down to Mexico. We were driving around and Ken looked at the outside temperature of were we were and the temperature was zero degrees Celsius...brrrr. Now we still had things to do and places to go that evening. Ken was looking to buy sandals at Bass Pro located in The Shops at Northfield Stapleton. We had left this shopping adventure for evening, don't know why. We walked into the store in the rain and walked out to snow - lots of it. Ken had to clear the snow off the van just to drive back to the hotel.

A couple of days of cold weather was about all we wanted to put up with. Perhaps we have become soft living in a climate where every day is a warm, sunny, summer day.  We still enjoyed our time in Denver, shopping and occasionally eating at great restaurants. We discovered that Denver has wonderful Pho restaurants. This wonderfully, spicy, Vietnamese soup was on the menu at several meals. We also had to visit a favourite place called Rico’s Pizzeria on South Broadway. They have the best calzones. We ordered the calzones smothered in tomato sauce and  cheese. Sometimes we even have to go to Rico’s twice during a Denver visit. This restaurant is a ma and pa operation in a small cafe atmosphere where you can see the food being cooked.

After a fair amount of time in Denver and the inclement weather we wanted to move on to Canada. It takes about two days to drive to my Sister and Brother-in-law’s home near Boundary Dam. One more full breakfast at our hotel and a look around the well appointed lobby. We were packed and off to Canada for a Friday night arrival.
